Trauma

TRAUMA

Experiencing a traumatic event or having a trauma history can get in the way of you living your life.  Whether you experience trauma directly (examples: car accident, sexual assault), indirectly (example: working as a frontline worker), or by witnessing it (example: a child witnessing domestic violence), you may be left without feelings of safety and trust in others and the world. You may feel fearful, helpless, powerless, weak, and even “bad”.  Both single incidents and repeated or prolonged experiences of trauma (examples: persistent emotional neglect and/or invalidation from a parent) can lead to the development of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Psychotherapy can help.  Our therapists are trained to support clients in facing trauma-related thoughts, memories, and feelings to process their trauma and reach a point of healing. Emotion-Focused Therapy for Trauma and Cognitive Processing Therapy are just a few of the approaches our therapists may use to support clients in their healing.
