ANXIETY

Anxiety is a negative mood state which is experienced as worry about the future and is often accompanied by uncomfortable physical symptoms. Most of us experience some level of anxiety almost every day and although these everyday experiences of fear and worry are unpleasant, they can be useful (examples: motivates you to drive more carefully in a storm, or work harder at your job). Sometimes symptoms such as restlessness, irritability, difficulty concentrating, and feeling on edge can become too intense, happen too often, last too long, and/or be triggered too easily. In these cases, you may be suffering with an anxiety disorder. An assessment can help you to gain a better understanding of what you are experiencing (examples: Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, a Specific Phobia, etc.) and therapy can help you to improve and manage symptoms. Our therapists are trained in various treatment approaches that are effective in supporting clients who are experiencing anxiety including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
