Dr. Costaris is a registered clinical psychologist with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario. He provides evidence-based psychological services to children, adolescents, emerging adults, and parents, and is in the process of obtaining an additional competency in working with adults.
Dr. Costaris completed his doctorate in School and Clinical Child Psychology at the University of Toronto and has worked across a range of settings, including the Toronto District School Board, Surrey Place, and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. Prior to his work in psychology, he was a teacher, and he continues to integrate this perspective into his clinical work, particularly when developing practical, real-world recommendations that align with the demands of school and daily life.
Dr. Costaris provides therapy and parent coaching for children and adolescents, working collaboratively with individuals and families to understand their experiences and develop meaningful, achievable goals. He uses an integrative approach, drawing from attachment-based, emotion-focused, and cognitive-behavioural therapies to tailor treatment to each client’s needs. His areas of work with children and adolescents include mood and anxiety disorders, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), learning disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and challenges related to self-esteem, anger, and emotion regulation.
Dr. Costaris also works with adults experiencing concerns such as anxiety (including generalized and social anxiety, burnout, and life stress), depression, emotion regulation difficulties, self-criticism, and challenges in relationships. His work with adults is collaborative and insight-oriented, focusing on helping clients understand the underlying patterns that contribute to current difficulties, rather than addressing symptoms in isolation. He supports clients in exploring core emotional and relational themes in a way that is thoughtful, non-judgmental, and grounded in a strong therapeutic relationship.
His approach integrates evidence-based modalities including attachment-focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and emotion-focused techniques. Rather than relying on rigid tools, he emphasizes developing emotional awareness, flexibility, and strategies that can be applied across different areas of life.
His background working extensively with children, adolescents, and families provides a developmentally informed lens, allowing him to identify patterns that often begin earlier in life and continue to shape adult relationships, emotional responses, and sense of self.
In addition to therapy, Dr. Costaris provides comprehensive psychological and psychoeducational assessments for children and adolescents. These assessments address a range of learning, cognitive, and social-emotional concerns, including learning disabilities, intellectual functioning, giftedness, and mental health difficulties.
