NIDA YOUSUF, M.S.ED., C.PSYCH.

(She/Her)

Nida is a Registered Psychologist in Ontario providing therapy to adults and couples. She received her Masters in Counseling Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania where there is a strong focus on training in empirically validated treatments.

Nida has been working in the clinical field for 13 years and has extensive experience working with adult and adolescent clients, helping them deal with issues such as: anxiety, complex trauma, addiction, depression, postpartum depression, and family/relationship issues. In her current work, she employs an integrative approach to psychotherapy, utilizing techniques from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT). Nida also specializes in Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT-C) for Couples.

In working with couples, she helps them improve communication and resolve emotional injuries, as well as accept, understand, and connect with each other in a loving, nurturing way. In addition, Nida also helps couples de-escalate conflict and change problematic interactional cycles.

Having lived half her life in the Eastern part of the world and trained in psychotherapy interventions grounded in Western philosophy, Nida is aware of the role that social factors such as race, ethnicity, and immigration play in the development of psychological and emotional distress in her clients’ lives. She personally understands the role of acculturation and its transgenerational impact on an individual’s worldview and sense of self.  Thus, she finds it all the more important to work from a culturally sensitive place with each of her clients.

As a health care provider, Nida values professional development and education and strives to maintain up-to-date knowledge to provide current, effective, and evidence-based interventions to her clients. She is a warm, compassionate therapist who works collaboratively and empathically with clients to build trust, as it is very important to her that clients feel supported and safe. Nida offers services in English, Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi.
