DR. TARA GRALNICK, PH.D.
REGISTERED CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST
(She/Her)
Dr. Tara Gralnick has a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Toronto Scarborough. She views the therapeutic relationship as integral to meaningful therapeutic change, adopting a genuine, empathetic, and non-judgmental style with her clients. She strives to deeply attune to her clients’ experiences, providing a sense of safety that supports emotional exploration and transformation.
Dr. Gralnick is grateful to have received in-depth training in Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), which lies at the heart of her clinical work. She draws on EFT to help clients access the emotional roots of their suffering, particularly those shaped by earlier relational wounds, and to transform painful patterns that continue to echo in the present. She also integrates elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) when helpful for reducing situational distress and supporting clients in gradually moving toward deeper emotional work.
Dr. Gralnick works with clients experiencing a range of difficulties, including anxiety (e.g., social anxiety, generalized anxiety, panic), depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), psychosis, complex trauma, low self-worth, relationship difficulties, perfectionism, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), overwhelming emotions, life stressors, and self-stigma. She has developed a particular interest in working with clients who have endured interpersonal trauma and who struggle with shame and self-criticism.
Dr. Gralnick strives to promote cultural safety and applies an intersectional lens when working with clients of diverse racial, ethnic, religious, gender, and sexual identities. She also values neurodiversity and works collaboratively with clients to honour their unique ways of processing, relating, and experiencing the world. Dr. Gralnick is mindful of the broader systemic and societal factors that contribute to emotional suffering and seeks to create space for these realities within the therapeutic process.
Dr. Gralnick completed her pre-doctoral residency at the Calgary Clinical Psychology Residency Program, with rotations in a hospital-based mood disorders program, an early/adult psychosis program, and a community mental health clinic. She then pursued a post-doctoral fellowship at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton’s early psychosis clinic. Throughout her graduate training, she completed practicum placements at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH)’s Complex Care and Recovery Program, CAMH’s Work, Stress, and Health Program, and DBT Hamilton.
In line with her client-centered approach to therapy, Dr. Gralnick’s research focused on developing an intervention to help individuals better understand their universal personality traits and to cultivate desired changes if they wish to.
Dr. Gralnick is a member of the Canadian Psychological Association and the Ontario Psychological Association.
