DR. KAREN WONG, PH.D., C.PSYCH.

Dr. Karen Wong is a registered Clinical Psychologist working with individuals and couples. She has provided therapy services since 2009, and received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from York University. She has trained and worked in numerous settings, including university counselling centres, inpatient and outpatient hospital programs, and private practice.


Dr. Wong’s therapeutic style is warm, empathic, and non-judgemental. She works collaboratively with clients to address concerns related to anxiety, depression, grief, interpersonal trauma, life transitions, and relationship difficulties. In addition, Dr. Wong helps clients who would like to explore questions regarding identity, belonging, and finding their place in this world. She is attentive to the individuality and goals of each client and couple, and aims to meet people where they are, while also promoting growth.


Dr. Wong integrates evidence-based treatment approaches, primarily Emotion-Focused Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, when working with clients. She assists clients in fostering a deeper understanding of themselves and the root of their difficulties, transforming self-criticism and shame, and developing healthier ways of relating to themselves and others. She helps couples create connection and improve communication as well as resolve emotional injuries in relationships.


Dr. Wong has specialized clinical and research experience in Emotion-Focused Therapy, and has supervised clinicians in this treatment approach. Her graduate research focused on how clients and therapists form effective working relationships in experiential treatment, as well as identifying the unique paths that clients take in achieving successful therapeutic outcomes.


Dr. Wong continues to engage in regular professional development activities and is a member of the Ontario Psychological Association.
