ALIX COWIE, M.ED., C.PSYCH.

Alix Cowie is a registered psychologist and holds a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Western Ontario. She has worked in the field of mental health in varying capacities since 2006. She has trained in a number of evidence-based therapeutic approaches including Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Mindfulness-Meditation.


Alix finds it very rewarding to support individuals, couples, and families to create meaningful and lasting changes in their lives and relationships and takes great pleasure in helping people to develop deeper connections within themselves, their loved ones, and their communities. She provides a safe, warm, caring, inclusive, and respectful therapeutic environment in order to help clients facilitate deeper exploration and change of their issues and challenges. Through a collaborative therapeutic process, she works with clients to establish meaningful goals, explore issues, gain insight, find new solutions, and implement important changes in their lives


Alix works with a variety of presenting issues such as: relational injury; conflict; communication difficulties; emotional injuries and extra-marital affairs; difficulties with intimacy and emotional closeness; helping couples and families create and deepen their connection with each other; depression; self-criticism; anxiety; stress; adjustment issues; psychological trauma; grief; resolving unfinished business with a significant other; and self-esteem issues.


Alix is passionate about relational work and has received extensive training and supervision with leaders in the field who have developed these evidence-based Emotion-Focused treatment programs for couples, with Les Greenberg and Serine Warwar, as well as Emotion-Focused treatment programs for families with Joanne Dolhanty and Adele Lafrance. She has completed advanced training and supervision in working with more complex relational issues such as emotional injuries, complex childhood trauma and the impact of complex trauma on relationships. Alix is a skills facilitator for Emotion-Focused Therapy Workshops. In addition, she values continuing education and learning and is engaged in ongoing education and training groups.


Alix is a member of the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO), the Ontario Psychological Association (OPA), as well as the International Society for Emotion-Focused Therapy (ISEFT).
