SUPERVISOR IN CLINICAL AND COUNSELLING PSYCHOLOGY

(She/Her)

Dr. Gillian Wilson is a registered clinical and counselling psychologist. She completed her PhD in the Clinical Psychology Program at Toronto Metropolitan University.

Dr. Wilson provides evidence-based assessment and treatment for adults experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety (e.g., social anxiety, generalized anxiety, panic disorder, agoraphobia, health anxiety, specific phobias), obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, perfectionism, posttraumatic stress, including complex trauma, emotion regulation difficulties, insomnia, relationship difficulties, and life stress (e.g., stress related to life transitions). Her clinical approach is integrative, drawing from Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

Dr. Wilson has completed clinical training in a variety of settings, including hospitals, private practice, and research settings (in the context of clinical trials). She completed her predoctoral residency at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in the Mood and Anxiety Ambulatory Services and the Borderline Personality Disorder Clinic. She also completed clinical placements at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton in the Anxiety Treatment and Research Clinic and the Borderline Personality Disorder Service, and at St. Michael’s Hospital in the Toronto Metropolitan University Psychology Training Clinic. She gained further clinical experience in the HIV Prevention Lab and the Sleep and Depression Lab at Toronto Metropolitan University.

Dr. Wilson highly values professional growth and development, participating in ongoing clinical trainings, workshops, and consultation to continuously build upon and refine her clinical skills. She has a strong interest in providing clinical supervision to students and early career therapists with the goal of helping supervisees develop their assessment and therapy skills across various evidence-based modalities (e.g., EFT, DBT, CBT). As a clinical supervisor, she emphasizes the importance of theory-driven case conceptualization and process-oriented, experiential factors.

Dr. Wilson flexibly incorporates change- and acceptance-based strategies into her clinical practice to meet the unique needs and goals of her clients. Her approach is client-centered, culturally sensitive, and nested within a therapeutic alliance that emphasizes authenticity, compassion, empathic understanding, and ongoing collaboration with the client. She is passionate about helping clients develop a deeper understanding of how their life experiences have contributed to core painful emotions (e.g., shame, fear) and assisting clients in transforming and processing their emotional experiences in healthy and productive ways. She aims to provide clients with the tools, resources, and insight to help alleviate their emotional suffering, optimize their strengths, and build a life that is consistent with their values.

Dr. Wilson is a member of the College of Psychologists of Ontario, the Canadian Psychological Association, and the Ontario Psychological Association.
